USA inspiration – facts about 50 states

This road reminds me of some women friends - curvy and scenic (8227777503)

Jim and I have for many years discussed the idea of a USA road trip.  It is something that we both would love to do, but the only two drawbacks are that neither of us are keen on driving on the wrong side of the road, and I don’t even know how we would begin to narrow down where we want to go.

That idea is something that has been on the backburner for a long time, but my Dad has just re-ignited it today by showing me the discussion he has kicked off on the Esty forums.  He has asked for residents of all 50 states to contribute some interesting and obscure facts about their state.  It is going really well – people have become really involved and there are only a few states left to go.  You can read through the thread here.

It is a long way to travel to the USA from the UK, and most of us going only have a limited amount of time, so we do go to see the “big” places, like New York and Los Angeles.  This thread just goes to show how much more there is to the USA which is less well known and which could easily be overlooked on a flying two week visit from the UK.

Everyone who has posted into my Dad’s discussion has really sold their state to me and from reading it, I have learnt a lot about each one that I didn’t know before.  I now want to go and visit pretty much everywhere that the responders have mentioned! It’s going to be a long road trip…
